Information on the Types of Abortions
Types of Abortion
Abortion Pill Information
Medication abortion, also called the abortion pill, is FDA-approved up to 70 days (10 weeks) of pregnancy. The pill (two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol) is taken in two doses.
To determine how far along you are and to receive information about your options and possible side effects, request an appointment at Haven today.
If you have recently taken mifepristone (the first dose of the abortion pill) and regret it, learn more about Abortion Pill Reversal and what you can do.
Surgical Abortion Procedure Information
There are several types of surgical abortions. Suction aspiration, also called suction curettage or vacuum aspiration abortion, is performed during the first 6 to 16 weeks of gestation. Dilation and evacuation (D&E) is another type of procedure typically performed in later weeks. Both types have risks and side effects that greatly vary depending on your gestation and health.
If you are considered late-term and are still considering an abortion, make an appointment with Haven today to talk about your options.
Please note that we provide free pregnancy services and low-cost STD testing and do not perform or refer for abortion services.
Health and Safety Steps Before You Decide
Are You Really Pregnant?
There are many reasons you may have a positive home test.
Before making any decisions, find out if you are really pregnant and if the pregnancy is viable.
It is also important to determine if you are at risk for a natural miscarriage or ectopic (tubal) pregnancy to prevent any complications.
How Far Along Are You?
Abortion costs vary and depend on how far along you are, where you get a medical abortion or the type of abortion procedure. Most clinics require an ultrasound confirmation.
Make an appointment for a free ultrasound today.
Although Haven does not provide abortion services, we can determine how far along you are and what options are available to you.
STIs, STDs, & Your Health
Not all abortion providers provide testing for STIs or STDs. Ruling out or treating an STD/STI is important because infections or serious complications can occur if it isn’t treated before you undergo an abortion procedure. We can talk about your sexual health and provide information on STDs/STIs and give you a list of locations where you can get tested.
We'll also inform you about any potential side-effects of medical or surgical abortions and how they relate to your physical and mental health.
